The National Capital Band traditionally begins each season with a retreat held at Camp Happyland. This year, the retreat was held on 11 - 12 September. The retreat is a time for the members of the band to participate in some intense rehearsals, trying out new items for the season's repertoire, and also spiritual and social refreshment through fellowship.

Weekend of Hope in Lynchburg Print E-mail

The National Capital Band (Bandmaster James B. Anderson) traveled to the city of Lynchburg, Virginia for a ministry weekend, 2 – 3 May, 2009. The primary reason for the band’s visit was the celebration of the opening of a new Salvation Army facility in Lynchburg, the Center of Hope. Located next to the existing Lynchburg Corps building on Park Avenue, this center replaces aging shelter and other buildings in the city.

Richmond Ministry Weekend Print E-mail

The National Capital Band made a long-awaited visit to Richmond, Virginia on the weekend of 21 – 22 February 2009. Preparation for this event began the previous Christmas season when fliers were handed out to those who listened to small Salvation Army ensembles throughout Richmond. Those who came to see the NCB during the ministry weekend were not disappointed.

On 25 January 2009, the National Capital Band journeyed a few miles north of Washington to the suburban city of Gaithersburg. For the second consecutive year, the band was invited to provide the backing for the annual Hymn Sing service at the Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church.

New River Valley (Christiansburg) Print E-mail

On the weekend of 3 – 4 March 2007, the National Capital Band journeyed to the New River Valley in southwestern Virginia. The weekend marked the dedication of a new building for the New River Valley Corps, based in Christiansburg. Although this area is a part of the National Capital and Virginia Division, the band has not often played in the Valley.
